On 22 February 2009, Captain Big_Fred, Major SpaceGnome, and Major Python, were on patrol in the Forgotten Skies campaign when they came in contact with no less than nine enemy aircraft. At 7,000 meters, Flight Leader Big_Fred and his two wingmen were harassed by enemy fighters. Captain Big_Fred ordered the flight to close formation and then led them to safety. While eluding enemy fighter cover, the formation came across three enemy bombers. With Major SpaceGnome's assistance, Captain Big_Fred downed one of the enemy bombers. As they continued their patrol, Captain Big_Fred, Major SpaceGnome, and Major Python, came in contact with another flight of three enemy bombers and attacked them. During the ensuing battle, Captain Big_Fred downed another enemy bomber and then climbed out to provide high cover for his wingmen as Major Python attacked a second enemy bomber. Although unconfirmed, Major Python scored a probable kill. Captain Big_Fred then led the flight of three safely back to their airfield.

As a result of his leadership and exceptional skill in combat, Captain Big_Fred has distinguished himself in the face of the enemy. For his heroism and extraordinary achievement, Captain Big_Fred is hereby awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Nicely done, Big Fred. Congratulations!
